About the VL3D++ project

VL3D++ is an open source framework developed in an applied research environment to analyse, process and classify 3D point clouds using Deep Learning.

It was born with a clear goal: to make advanced analysis of 3D data reproducible, understandable and accessible to the research and technical community.

It is the result of years of work in 3D processing, computational geometry and machine learning applied to real cases.

Research context

The development of VL3D++ takes place within a
university and scientific context where the priority is to:

Research

new methods for 3D processing.

Apply

Deep Learning directly on spatial geometry.

Develop

tools that allow results to be validated objectively.

Demonstrate

the applicability of the approach in real and complex cases.

Open source philosophy

From its inception, VL3D++ has been conceived as an open and shared technology.

The goal is to foster knowledge and make it accessible to the technical and research community so it can be studied, reproduced and extended.

Applied research
on real problems

Throughout the project, the framework has been tested on
complex datasets and real scenarios:

Large-scale territorial classificationMining and volumetric analysis
Electrical infrastructure and vegetation managementForestry and agricultural analysisMedical and anatomical applications

The researchers
behind the project

VL3D++ is the result of the work of expert researchers from the Singular Research Centre on Intelligent Technologies (CITIUS) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) specialising in 3D processing, computational geometry and applied Deep Learning.
